How Reedwood is Organized

Most decisions affecting the Reedwood Friends Church community are made in "monthly meeting" congregational meetings at which the entire community (members, attenders, visitors) is welcome and encouraged to attend. These meetings are held most months on the fourth Sunday of the month. The presiding clerk (as Quakers call the presiding officer of our congregations) exercises servant leadership over the meeting, as we all seek the will of God through prayer and discussion. Decisions are reached and recorded when substantial unity has been found. Normally, in the absence of such unity, decisions are deferred for further prayer and study.

Much of the work of the church is done in smaller groups. The Elders are concerned with the spiritual health of the community and the work of the pastors. The Stewards care for the finances and property of the church. The Trustees hold ownership of the property on behalf of the church community. Other ministries and programs are overseen by such committees and working groups as Missions, the Peace and Social Concerns committee, Children's Council, Adult Education, the Center for Christian Studies, and the ministry group that oversees the ministries of Lambert House, a facility on the Reedwood property.

The church's officers and Elders are chosen through a nominations process and approved by the monthly meeting. Details are available in the Northwest Yearly Meeting Faith and Practice
